Standard Care & Cost for the Average Horse Here is a brake down of the standard care and cost for a month for one horse to keep them looking like Prince here in this photo. Hay and feed $150.00 The Farrier/ blacksmith every 8weeks $25.00 (for a trim no shoe's). Worming every 6 to 8weeks $4.00 to $12.00. Vaccines yearly $36.00. And even a dentist is 0ne or more times a year $125.00 or more per visit. This is the cost for the average horse. For older horses they need different feed and need the dentist more often thru the year. Then you have one's with health issues which are on daily medication; and those that need the farrier more then normal because of lamness.
